2. The Journey (Curriculum Map)

• This GCSE consists of 60% Coursework (Unit 1 - Portfolio) and 40% Externally set task (Unit 2 - Exam project)

60% Unit 1.

• • Students have already completed their first coursework project entitled "Still Life" and have produced a project within their sketchbooks leading to a final piece.

  • Students are currently at the stage where their own personal ideas are developing in response to our overall theme of "Places". 

  • Students will continue to work towards their own final outcome, researching artists and trialling media experiements. They will begin their final piece during the mock exam in December, and then complete in the lessons that follow. All coursework, including sketchbook and final pieces is to be handed in the first lesson back after the Christmas holidays.  

40% Unit 2 Externally Set Task - This will be issued in January of Year 11 by AQA and is an independent project

• Students choose from a range of starting points presented by the exam board. They have until Easter to build a body of work relevant to their chosen theme.

• Their final outcome / outcomes is created in controlled conditions in school, during a 10 hour (2 day) examination.

• Both Unit 1 (60%) and Unit 2 (40%) are marked separately out of 96.

  • The four assessment objectives are equally weighted 

    • AO1 - Develop

    • AO2 - Refine

    • AO3 - Record

    • AO4 - Present

6. Practical Advice for Support at Home

• Homework & Coursework Structure: Students should be completing at least one hour a week outside of the lesson on their sketchbook work. This can be either a task that is set for the student group, or at this stage in the course following one to one advice from their class teacher. 

• Visual language is at the core of Fine Art. Communicating ideas through sketching, drawing and mark-making is important when completing both Unit 1 and Unit 2 for all students.  

• Annotation to critique artists' work and support visual analysis of students own work is important when showing contextual understanding.

• Lesson resources are posted onto students google classroom pages
